The Swedish Armed Forces stands united with other government agencies. Facing global challenges requires more focus on sustainability.
While following the guidelines for sustainable development, the Swedish Armed Forces builds the foundation for carrying out its principal task – protecting and safeguarding our democracy. The sustainable development work of the Swedish Armed Forces is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the UN Agenda 2030, as well as on Sweden’s environmental goals.
When identifying the ways that it is managing sustainable development , the Swedish Armed Forces has found that it is influencing and contributing to most of the 17 SDGs of Agenda 2030.
In order for the government agency to achieve sustainable development it is paramount that the social, economic and environmental perspectives are well integrated and capable of interaction. Each aspect impacts the overall sustainable development, therefore, all aspects must work together to achieve it. The work carried out by the Swedish Armed Forces regarding sustainable development for the environment is focused on climate issues and biological diversity, while the social and economic aspects focus on work environment, public procurement, gender equality and a circular economy. Systematic work on sustainable development enables the Swedish Armed Forces to achieve its principal task – to defend Sweden, the country’s interests, our freedom and our right to live the way we choose.
